ARCO NORTE: III SALON OF ART AND THE CITY
21.06.2024 - 13.07.2024
COLLABORATION: EL ASUNTO URBANO
ARCO NORTE - III SALON OF ART AND CITY is a collective network of cultural production that brings together independent spaces dedicated to the promotion, production and exhibition of contemporary art and architecture, located in the northern part of Mexico City seeking to promote the decentralization of culture, and explore different parts of the city through architecture and visual arts.
The north is one of the largest, most populated and diverse areas of Mexico City. Paradoxically, its vast extension makes it an abstract idea, a peripheral space. However, the north and its locational complexities represent another side of the city’s cultural production where independent spaces and local phenomena make up an unknown territory of urban cultural production.
These independent spaces operate voluntarily on the margins and emerge as individual initiatives, non-institutionalized spaces: galleries that are houses, apartments in multi-family housing turned into encounter spaces, creative factories, warehouses made residences, schools turned studios, and industrial workshops that have now devoted to arts and crafts .
These spaces function as epicenters within their radius of influence, and also as a shelter for inclusive practices based on collaboration. Arco Norte emerges as an initiative that seeks not only to make visible the enormous amount of work that is produced in the margins, but also to identify their practices among themselves, to establish links, relationships and creative exchanges from the collective identity, and the recognition of a place that is invented while it reveals itself.
SPACES
THE SALON OF ART AND THE CITY
The Salon of Art and the City is an initiative of El Asunto Urbano in collaboration with Proyector, which seeks to create a bridge between contemporary art, architecture and urbanism. Through the exhibition of works and projects, architects develop from the languages of the visual arts, and contemporary artists dialogue or solve works based on architectural and urban themes and supports.
For its third edition, the Salon expands to other sites, creating exchanges between spaces and promoting dialogue between architecture and the visual arts, continuing with its founding drive to create new collaborative networks in Mexico City.
