Proyector in collaboration with re:arc institute present Extra Ordinario, a collaborative network that seeks to identify new models of architectural production and creative work practices in Latin America.
LATIN AMERICA
The economic and social disparities present in Latin America have provoked a heterogeneity in the architectural production systems in the region, operating in convergence with the richness of their cultural and natural environments. These extraordinary conditions have been regularly standardized in the operation of these systems, giving rise to unconventional processes, generally based on individual or collective efforts, as well as tensions between their own conditions of necessity and opportunity.
EXTRA ORDINARY
Extra Ordinario is a collaborative network that seeks to identify new models of architectural production and creative work practices in Latin America. We seek applied spatial practices and projects, whether emerging or consolidated, that from critical, collaborative and specifically situated approaches, address cultural, social, material, labor, technological and environmental issues, actively promoting a new landscape of architectural production in the region.
COMMUNITY
These unique material production processes, despite their transformative potential, often remain isolated or hidden. In this sense, we are interested in establishing relationships between processes that respond creatively to local conditions of social, economic and environmental inequality, and specifically those that have given rise to exceptional solutions that confront the traditional limits of conventional design and construction.
We invite groups, individuals, organizations of architects, builders, designers and multidisciplinary professionals to explore, interact and transform their environment and socio-cultural surroundings by operating freely between official and unofficial systems, between institution and self-management, between technology and craftsmanship throughout Latin America.
FIRST EDITION
In its first phase, the platform seeks to consolidate a network of practices and undertakings that, through an editorial project consisting of four digital volumes, will include material from meetings, interviews, essays, profiles and projects of the participating practices. Extra Ordinario is a meeting space to share knowledge and experiences, as well as to find in the collective support and mutual recognition, the possibility of strengthening each other through future collaborations.
